Regions involved

The project OpenMuseums include regions that extend from the Italian Emilia-Romagna, Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia up to the Slovenian Coast and the Karst, Goriška and Osrednjeslovenska region.

The mentioned area is full of rich artistic and cultural heritage; due to the intertwining tangible and intangible cultural heritage, historical contact points and cultural diversity, each region is unique and precious. The museums and galleries are particularly concentrated in historical cities where a large number of visitors present a good opportunity also in the economic sense. Here are lots of places included in the Unesco World Heritage Sites that provide a solid foundation for the development of historical and artistic routes and for the collaboration between cultural institutions. There are a lot of partners collaborating in this project. Some of them are founders of major museums, like the Province of Venice and the City Municipality of Ljubljana; others are smaller and often forced to compete with larger, more famous neighbors, although they alone already represent an important cultural center and witness about culture, history and local traditions. They can become a significant reference point of development and valorization of the area, and the cultural heritage of the cities involved.

There is a common goal of the actions focused on the preservation and valuation of the heritage, mutual acquaintance of the cultural heritage with the creation of a museum network and the exchange of knowledge between participant partners: to contribute to the social development and the interaction of various environments by approaching different cultures and their residents that share a common historical path but keep their own traditions. Together, they represent a spiritual wealth worth preserving for present and future generations
